Haiti Police on High Alert Due to Gang Leader's Threats

The National Police of Haiti (PNH) is on high alert following new threats from the leader of the armed coalition Viv Ansanm (Living Together), Jimmy Cherisier, alias 'Barbecue'. He called on the population not to leave their homes starting this Monday, anticipating an imminent confrontation with law enforcement, who are continuing an offensive against the gangs.

This new threat from 'Barbecue' comes days after the National Police, the Haitian Armed Forces (FAD'H), and the Gangs Reduction Force (GSF) launched a large-scale joint operation against the armed group 400 Mawozo. This group has held residents of the Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets municipalities, north of Port-au-Prince, hostage for years. The operation resulted in dead gang members and confiscated weapons.

On Monday, the Haitian National Police announced the postponement of all vacations and leave for its members. "The objective is to mobilize all police personnel to guarantee the optimal security of the population and respond to any eventuality," the institution stated.

The police warned that they will continue their offensive in Croix-des-Bouquets, north of Port-au-Prince, against the armed group 400 Mawozo, led by Lanmò Sanjou (Death Without a Day). Police have raided several spaces used as hideouts by the bandits, some of whom were killed or abandoned the areas they occupied.

The Director General of the Police, Vladimir Paraison, has intensified his visits in recent days to the headquarters of the main units involved in the operations against the gangs, which control about 90% of Port-au-Prince. He aims to express his "gratitude for the valor and commitment of the police in the relentless battles to restore order and enforce the law."
