The Presidential Council for Transition of Haiti (CPT) has dismissed Prime Minister Garry Conille and appointed businessman Alix Didier Fils-Aime as his successor, amid accusations of corruption and legal controversies. The dispute escalates with Conille's objections regarding the legitimacy of the decision, considering it goes against the Constitution of the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Garry Conille instructed the entity responsible for publishing official decisions not to disseminate the resolution made by the Council. Conille argued that the resolution lacked legal and constitutional basis, creating uncertainty about its legitimacy and possible consequences for the future of Haiti. He assured that the decision violated not only the Constitution but also the regulations governing the transition period.

The former prime minister maintained that the CPT, although it has the authority to appoint the prime minister, does not have the authority to dismiss him, pointing out that this measure represents an abuse of power and an affront to fundamental democratic principles. A long-standing conflict between Conille and members of the Presidential Council for Transition has been observed in recent months.

The resolution, signed by eight of the nine members of the Council during a meeting at the National Palace last Friday, appointed Alix Didier Fils-Aime as the new prime minister, and he is expected to form a new government the day after his investiture. The disagreement seems to stem from the presence in the CPT of three members accused of corruption in the country, along with Conille's refusal to make changes to his cabinet as required by the Council.

The only CPT member who did not subscribe to the decision was Edgard Leblanc Fils. The appointment of the new prime minister is scheduled to be published in the official newspaper of the country, Le Moniteur, tomorrow. Alix Didier Fils-Aime, a former Senate candidate for the political party Verite, is set to take office this Monday, according to local media reports.
