The United States has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Haiti, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, wishing him success in his duties following the dismissal of Garry Conille. The Biden administration also emphasized the importance of working with the Presidential Transition Council to achieve progress in the coming months.

In a statement issued by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, Garry Conille was thanked for his service to the country, and it was celebrated that the Transition Council and the new Prime Minister have agreed to publish a joint action plan to improve security in Haiti and move towards calling elections. However, the need for both parties to clearly define their responsibilities and establish accountability mechanisms was emphasized.

The transitional government in Haiti faces urgent challenges, focusing on preparations for the presidential elections, which are scheduled for February 7, 2026. The presidency has been vacant since the assassination of Jovenel Moïse in 2021. This process is taking place against a backdrop of violence from armed gangs, which recently attacked a Spirit Airlines plane as it approached Port-au-Prince.

In this regard, Washington has urged the transitional government to prioritize governance over the personal interests of conflicting political actors, in order to ensure stability and credibility both before the Haitian population and the international community. It is considered crucial to establish effective accountability mechanisms to maintain trust in the Presidential Transition Council and the new Haitian Prime Minister.
